Renault Group & LKW WALTER: Two decades for sustainable transport

Renault Group and LKW WALTER are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their successful collaboration. The partnership started in 2004 with the common goal of realising environmentally friendly transport solutions. Two decades later, it is a prime example of logistical environmental protection: As a result, 850,000 kg of CO2 have already been saved only this year.

The partnership between Renault Group and LKW WALTER, which began 20 years ago with a road transport route from Slovenia to France, has developed over the years into a role model for sustainable logistics. Since the first joint steps, the companies have constantly worked on realising further innovative and environmentally friendly transport solutions. In 2015, the cooperation reached another milestone: LKW WALTER was honoured with the prestigious Renault Innovation Award for its pioneering work on the short sea solution between the UK and Spain. The forward-looking initiatives are part of a long-term strategy to play a leading role in shaping sustainable transport in Europe.

Sustainable solutions in combined transport

Sustainability and environmental protection are key concerns of our time, especially in the transport industry. With their partnership, Renault Group and LKW WALTER are jointly pursuing the goal of shifting road transport to combined transport in order to reduce pollutant emissions, especially CO2. In combined transport, the different modes of transport rail/ship and trucks are optimally combined in order to make transport as environmentally friendly and cost-efficient as possible. In 2024 already 1,012,600 kg of CO2 could be saved by shifting almost 1.000 full loads on the France-Romania and France-Spain routes.

Combined transport is not new for the Austrian transport organisation. In fact, LKW WALTER is one of Europe's leading providers of environmentally friendly transport solutions. Thanks to its pioneering work in combined rail/road and short sea shipping, the company can achieve a total CO₂ reduction of more than 329,000 tonnes per year. Since 1984, LKW WALTER has been effectively driving the expansion of the combined transport network throughout Europe, successfully helping to shape the future of transportation.

Future-oriented partnership

Renault Group emphasises the importance of this cooperation: "Renault Group took commitment to decarbonise Supply Chain and to be carbon neutral in Europe in 2040. One of our main levers is multimodal transport. Our strong collaboration with LKW WALTER on Multimodal is part of our decarbonisation's strategy and helps us to reach our commitment", explains Florence Ughetto, sustainable logistic’s Expert - Supply Chain at Renault Group. "Our latest project involves a 'double train' from southern Italy to Belgium, which supplies our plants in northern France. This connection alone has already saved 120,600 kg of CO2 this year."
